Dear Editor,
Anambra 2010: Onovo talks of arms stockpiling
It sounded ridiculous to read the Inspector General of Police, Onovo, say that Anambra politicians are stockpiling arms against the February 6, 2010 gubernatorial election. Since the intelligence report at his disposal revealed so, the onus is on him to ensure that those perpetrating such are made to face the full wrath of the law. This alarm goes to prove that most of the frontrunners in the Anambra 2010 could be desperados and should not be allowed to govern the State at any time. We believe that there are those non-controversial, do-or-die candidates who the masses should ensure one of them becomes governor, for the peace of Anambra State.
It will be recalled that IGP Onovo at the beginning of his tenure barked that he was going to withdraw unauthorized police details that were assigned to ‘unqualified’ individuals; up till today, such police details have grown in number rather than reduce.
This should serve as a notice to the IGP that if any use of arm by unauthorized persons should occur in the coming Anambra governorship election, his office would be held responsible. The situation where good evidence existed but a case treated with levity or comprise as being alleged regarding the Bank PHB $3.1m cash should henceforth be discouraged by the Police.
The IGP should not allow the public believe that he hobnobs with some ‘deadly’ State governors who go about dropping the idea that they have pocketed him. He should remove the bad Police-toga because for him to perform better than his predecessors, he must be seen to be above board.
