A Socio/Political group based in Owerri the Imo State, The Imo Democratic Congress has revealed it plans to flag off a peaceful demonstration in Owerri in the coming weeks tagged “Enough is Enough” to press home demands for accountability, infrastructural development, civility and good governance in Imo State.

A statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Maximus Uba stated that the peaceful demonstration, a coalitive effort of Civil society groups in Imo State and environs is slated to hold before the end January 2010.  “We are putting together a peaceful demonstration in Owerri in conjunction with some civil society groups.  The rally which is expected to draw over 2000 people made up of Students, Lecturers, Market women, Civil servants and the general public is targeted to task the government on the need to ensure good governance and accountability. That Mr. Ohakim is taking the generality of the people for a huge joke is no longer news, it has become such that even our brothers and sisters who came back from Diaspora during the Xmas were embarrassed with the level of decay, the tissues of lies bandied around the internet which is a far cry from what is on ground as well as general level corruption and absence of infrastructure in the state.  To this end, Imo Democratic Congress will in the coming weeks put together a peaceful demonstration which targets to get Mr. Ohakim to utilize tax payer’s money judiciously therefore we urge the people to come out en masse for this rally while efforts are made to get Police clearance as required”.

The Group warned that any attempt by members of New Face Organization to disrupt the rally will be resisted and challenged and tasked the law enforcements agents in Imo State to see to it that the opposition is allowed to have their say since it is part of democracy.  Furthermore the group demanded that markets and schools be closed on the date in question to enable a hitch free demonstration as the matter of Mis-governance in Imo has assumed a frightening dimension and must be challenged now else the state and its indigenes suffer for ever.
