Sir,

Obasanjo has said it all to Yar'Adua

The newspapers of Friday 22 nd January, 2010 quoted Obasanjo concerning Yar’Adua, thus: “What I need to say is that nobody picked Yar’Adua so that he will not perform. If I did that, God will punish me. If you take up an appointment (elected or appointed) and then your health starts failing to the extent that not allowing you to deliver and satisfy both yourself and the people you are supposed to serve, then there is a path of honour you have to take and if you don’t know that, then you don’t know anything”. Attah had earlier in his well publicised interview said thus:  “ President cannot resign today and come back tomorrow to say he wants to rescind his resignation because he is well now; therefore asking him to resign would sound very extreme and final. Constitution clearly stated that if the President has to be out of the country as it were, his Vice must be properly mandated to function in his position. Let me tell you from a completely different point of view from the people who say they are blaming Obasanjo for bringing Yar’Adua. For me, that is nonsense. Obasanjo had only one vote on that day. If you did not want him (Yar’Adua), why did you vote for him to be president? I think the matter should end there”.

If these past leaders of Nigerian governments could speak in the same vein that majority of Nigerians have continued to speak through press statements and demonstrations, then what is still holding one family (Yar’Adua’s) from relieving us of looming catastrophe. The SGF Yalaye Ahmed told the Senate Thursday 21/01/10 that he does not know when Yar’Adua will return.
