Anambra 2010: Obi's Government is a failure – Soludo
I feel Soludo might be chasing shadows while at the same time continually hammering that Governor Peter Obi’s government is a failure. Up till today in the media, just as in interview he granted News Star newspaper of Monday February 1, 2010, Soludo calls Obi’s government a total failure. He refused to touch on the perceived failed governments that the past PDP administration was accused of, by not only Obi but also some of PDP party members.
A serving PDP Senator (Annie Okonkwo) has sounded severally to Soludo that he (Soludo) is chasing his ambition wrongly and that he would not get there. Governor Akpabio is also being countered by Soludo: Akpabio had in November 2009, after Soludo was already declared PDP’s candidate for the election, insinuated that PDP past governments in Anambra were failures and that Peter Obi came in and rebuild the ‘failed’ State and therefore should be allowed to continue in office. His position was supported by Chief Don Etiebet, another strong member of the PDP who was also the National Chairman of ANPP at a time before returning back to PDP. While the two men (Godswill Akpabio and Don Etiebet) campaigned that Obi should be allowed to continue his ‘good work’, Annie Okonkwo is rooting for PPA’s Hon Mrs. Ekwunife to ascend the position of governor.
But many Anambra people that I spoke with argued that Ngige’s government (as a PDP’s) was a success rather than a failure and that Governor Obi has failed to utilize his Security Votes to fight the increasing criminal activities. They also accused him of running a deceitful government by embarking on last minute contracts awards and rushing some existing ones with the attendant poor handling; all in a bid to ensure his re-election.
