Dear Editor,

Soludo's loss: It was good he conceded but.........

Given PDP’s assertion that it was the in-fighting within its Anambra chapter that made Soludo lose the election; the PDP National Working Committee should share in the blame, so also some party stalwarts within and outside the State. The PDP forced Soludo on party members and at the same time failed to discipline members who erred in their negative utterances and court cases. Whereas the PDP Anambra blamed Ogbulafor for imposing Soludo, Ogbulafor has denied the blame and attributed the situation to Soludo’s fate (refer to Daily Punch 08/02/10).

The PDP national publicity secretary, Rufai Alkali, while commenting on the party’s loss in the national dailies Monday 08/02/10 said “It is very, very unfortunate that our party lost in Anambra State, a PDP State”. My reply to Rufai is that; PDP’s past governments in Anambra were failed ones and this was confirmed by some PDP members and therefore how would he expect Anambra people to support the party that did fail them.

PDP as a party seems to have untouchable members; in which case it lacks internal democracy and discipline. It has failed to discipline persons like Senator Annie Okonkwo, Chief Chris Uba, Governor Godswill Akpabio, Chief Don Etiebet, etc as their utterances offered Peter Obi a ready-made (weapon) slogan. Also those members that went to court against Soludo’s candidacy should also be disciplined. With such action taken against the bunch, other members contemplating toeing the patterns would have a rethink. Finally the PDP NEC and NWC should also be cautioned to always allow democracy within the party.
