Dear Sir,

Now is the time to sack INEC Chairman

For deceiving the nation including the Acting President, distinguished Nigerians, corporate organizations and the international community who sent congratulatory messages to Peter Obi, the INEC Chairman should be sacked with immediate effect. We are talking about illegality and constitutionality as they concern the electoral law of Nigeria.

INEC had every opportunity to analyze properly the total votes cast for and received by each candidate in the last Anambra gubernatorial election to avoid the deceit that has now been uncovered. Even Professor Soludo who is aware that he would not benefit should there be a run-off election since it would be between the two candidates that have the highest number of votes cast, has recanted his conceding of victory which led him to congratulate Obi. He is now singing a different tune; saying that Obi did not win the election. This is to show how deceitful INEC was in the exercise.

Given that the election went concluded without much of the anticipated ‘war’ situation in spite of disenfranchisement of registered voters, only 16% of them were allowed to perform one of their civic responsibilities of voting. This was caused by INEC’s inefficiency. The fact that Obi did not score 25% of total number of votes cast in two-thirds of the 21 Local Government Areas as required by the electoral act renders the result inconclusive.  The law must be followed to the letter. There is no way this illegality would stand the test of time and moreover everyone that congratulated Obi did so because they depended on the declaration of the INEC. As a result of this situation which nonetheless made mockery of the result, Professor Maurice Iwu requires a sack and a run-off election conducted between Obi and Ngige.  If after that Obi wins, then well and good but the illegality committed by INEC should not be allowed otherwise it would continue in the coming elections.
