Mimiko flags off Ondo Road project

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko yesterday flagged-off the Rehabilitation/Dualisation of Itanla Junction – Ademulegun Round-About – Surulere – Yaba – Akure Garage Road project in Ondo town as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.

The project to cost Three Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty-One Million, One Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty-Five Naira, Fifteen kobo (N3,531,191,455.15) is expected to enhance the flow of traffic on the ever-busy Akure Motor Park area of Ondo, reduce the rate of accidents and cut down unnecessary wastage in man-hours as a result of perennial traffic gridlock on the road.

In a clear departure from what obtained in the immediate past, the governor said  the sum of Nine Hundred and Fifty-One Million, Eighty Hundred and Three Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Naira, Twenty-Three kobo (N951,803,469.23) only, representing  30% of the contract sum has been released as mobilization fee to the contractor.

Assuring that work will commence immediately, Governor Mimiko warned the contractor and all parties involved in handling the project to ensure timely completion of the job and in accordance with the expected specifications and standards, adding that his administration will not tolerate substandard jobs or delay in job execution.

The governor also commissioned several other projects in the Ondo South Senatorial District among which are the Caring Heart Basic Health care Centre in Ajebandele, Market Stalls in Ilaramokin, solar-powered boreholes in Bolorunduro and other locations in Ifedore Local Government Area of the State

The projects, the governor said, are guided his belief in participatory democracy hence the adoption of the “Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach anchored on the 3i’s initiative to bring development projects to the doorstep of rural dwellers.”

Governor Mimiko added that the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperative Services, under which Eighty projects have been executed in rural communities thus far was created by his administration in April, 2009 “to bring about rapid transformational development to the rural communities.”
