The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC will this week declare indicted former Governors wanted if they fail to appear to answer questions on corruption charges while they were in office.
Only last week, three Governors had appeared before the EFCC to answer questions on money laundering and other financial crime charges against them.
The former Governors are Peter Odili, River State, James Ibori, Delta State and Jolly Nyame, Taraba State. Fifteen others are yet to appear before the commission.
An official of EFCC who spoke to pointblanknews.com on condition of anonymity disclosed that already the indicted Governors have been issued a letter last week warning them of the consequences of not appearing before the commission.
“EFCC is not taking this lightly because everyone of them must face the law and to this effect they have all being issued a warning letter that if they fail to appear they would be declared wanted and charged with no further delay,” the official said.
The official added that for those Governors who have left the country to evade prosecution, “we are going to get them and prosecute them regardless of where they have run to. There is not going to be a hiding place for anyone of them because we have people working for us all over,” he assured.
Former Governors Chimaraoke Nnamani of Enugu State, Joshua Dariye of Plateau State are said to have left the country in an attempt to evade prosecution but the EFCC official insisted that “this people have no immunity anymore, they are not protected anymore and we have extradition agreement with several countries around the world. As far as the EFCC is concern, that is not an issue, we will get them and bring them here or they would face the charges wherever they are.”
Even for those former Governors currently in the National Assembly, the EFCC official said “we are not sparing them at all. They would still have to answer questions about the corruption charges against them.”
