Oni signs N69.9 billion 2010 budget
Ekiti State Governor, Engr Segun Oni has signed the State’s 2010 appropriation bill into law with an assurance that his administration would implement the budget totalling N69.930 billion to the letter.
Speaking at the ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oni restated the commitment of his administration to better the lots of the people of the state this fiscal year.
He commended the members of the State House of assembly, and staff of the budget department for the passage of the budget describing the passage as cooperation personified.
“I can see cooperation, patriotism and genuineness of purpose on the part of members of the State House of Assembly. The various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were really grilled during the budget defence at the house. The various House committees sat diligently, as they scrutinised the budget before coming up with this first class budget.
“With the level of patriotism displayed by the House of Assembly and our brilliant staff in the Budget Department I can say emphatically that Ekiti is lucky, Ekiti is blessed ,Ekiti is not only viable but is also destined for the top,”,the Governor said.
Oni noted that policies of his administration in the last two years have continued to yield positive result as indices recently released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Federal Ministry of Heath indicate that the State has one of the best Heath Care Delivery systems in the Country as it now has the lowest prevalent rates o HIV/AIDS , Tuberculosis, Leprosy , Polio and Guinea worm as well as the highest life expectancy in the nation.
He promised that the state would reach lofty heights this year as many of the ongoing projects, including roads, public buildings and educational projects would be completed this fiscal year.
Earlier in his remarks, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Tunji Odeyemi said the House through its various committees critically analysed the performance of the 2009 budget before approving the 2010 budget.
He stressed the commitment of the House to perform its oversight functions through rigorous monitoring of the budget performance this year.
