How was Nigeria governed to this point?

advertisement

When one looks back now, all one could see is how Nigeria has survived in the last three years only by the special grace of God and not necessarily by any organized governance. The current event relating to the indisposition of (our) President Yar’Adua says it all. Up till today, no one knows if he is dead or alive.

Our Legislature has failed us, so also our Judiciary not living up to expectations. They (the executive, the legislature and the judiciary) need to be overhauled in order that the masses would continue to have the confidence they reposed in them.

No wonder; nothing moved in respect of Yar’Adua’s 7-point Agenda. The promotional montage of this hopelessness continued to be used menacingly on our national television stations until few days ago. Nigerians seem gullible; the government through the NTA remained insensitive and deceitful by continued airing of the 7-point Agenda even when it was ascertained that Turai had been the one calling the shots. What sort of politics are we playing in Nigeria? Citizens are groping in darkness, not knowing what was going on.

Now that Jonathan has taken over, albeit in acting capacity, let us see if there would be a meaningful difference that would usher in some sense of security and governance that Nigeria earnestly needs. We are tired of being governed by strokes of, and imaginary lucks.

Mr. Yinka Aderemi,
