N1.5 Million Bribe: Andy Uba Set To Deal With Supreme Court Judges

Disgraced former Governor Andy Uba is reportedly spoiling for revenge against some judges of the Supreme Court of Nigeria following their landmark decision that led to his summary removal as the de-facto Governor of Anambra State. His grouse: The Judges refusal to accept a N1.5 Billion kick-back that could have swung the ruling of the Supreme Court in his favor.

A maverick political player, with almost limitless financial resources which he was said to have personally estimated at about N1.7 Trillion (This he recently denied), Uba’s removal sent shock waves across the world on the on-going socio-political engineering in Nigeria, because he was believed to enjoy unequaled presidential access and sacred cow protection. But the Supreme Court saved Nigeria’s soul and declared that Mr. Peter Obi, Uba’s challenger should be allowed to finish his tenure of office.

The ever confused Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC headed Professor Maurice Iwu had committed an illegality by conducting an election that produced Uba as Governor while Peter Obi had not gone half way in his mandatory four years tenure. Uba rode rough-shod over every bump, largely because he had the open endorsement of the Nigerian presidency; he even fought bitterly against his own blood brother, (Chris Uba) and finally won. But no structure can stand on a faulty foundation. The supreme court of Nigeria in a unanimous decision said INEC erred in conducting election while an incumbent had not served his full term.

Pointblanknews.com recently obtained details of the plans orchestrated by the deposed Governor and his associates by pushing a monstrous N1.5 Billion envelope in the direction of the Supreme Justices. Specifically, some close associate of the politician were said to have sold him the idea that they could penetrate the strong shield of the apex court through Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu whose credibility and integrity they grossly underrated. They tried to offer Justice Katsina-Alu the money which he staunchly refused the money. Uba decided to have his day in court. It turned out ugly. Thereafter Uba decided to put up a photo smile for the media saying “my removal is a temporary set back and I will be back.”

Uba allegedly got back with his friends and swore in his quintessential manner, that the Judges, especially Justice Katsina-Alu must be dealt with one way or the other. Uba has since become increasingly desperate to get a strong political position that would give him the required leverage to square-up with the Judges on the Nigerian Supreme Court bench. When it look like his hope of becoming a member of the Federal Executive Council is not working according to his premeditations he has now fully re-oiled his campaign machinery for the powerful Chairmanship of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, all in attempt to lay hold of the principled Supreme Court Judges and demand a baseless pound of flesh.

Going by Uba’s antecedent anything is possible. He is one of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s most protected political sons. In the past, Babaegba did not allow him to be rain beaten. He easily uses executive intervention to clear every huddle for him. The grand old man is said to be aware of this precious son’s present political predicaments. He is said to be concerned and would not want him to completely loose out.

But Obasanjo has not endorsed him for any office. Yet the Chairmanship of the PDP has been zoned to the South East of Nigeria. Obasanjo is said to be rooting Uba. This is not known to most people as at now. Wherever the ride goes, Nigerians are waiting to see.

It is not clear if Obasanjo will still throw his weight behind Uba in his vengeful quest to fight the Supreme Court Justices. We are on the sideline waiting to tell.
