Nigeria’s Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro is rallying senior police officers to stave off his possible indictment over the missing N21 Million police fund.
Okiro is also giving expensive items to lobby for the vacant substantive position of Inspector General of Police.
According to police sources, Okiro who is said to be one of those who benefited from the largesse of N21 Million said to have been shared amongst very senior police chiefs towards the end of the tenure of his predecessor, Sunday Ehindero.
A confessional statement credited to the Commissioner of Police (Budgetary Affairs) Force Headquaters, Abuja, Mr. John Obaniyi, a sum of N21 Million hitherto declared missing was actually shared by the hierarchy of the Nigerian Police.
Obaniyi had listed Okiro as one of those who benefited saying “he actually took a big chunk of N5 Million. Others including DIG Ogbonna Onovo took the lion share of N6 Million, Two Principal Staff officers attached to the IG; Solomon Arasen and Leye Oyebade got N3 Million and N2 Million respectively. Haz Iwendi N2 Million, Obaniyi N3 Million. Even amongst thieves there is honor. The loot sharing formula was unique and sleazy.

According to police sources, Okiro is a man with soiled hands. He is eyeing the coveted position of Inspector General of Police. Yet he has to explain to Nigerians how he got entangled in this trashy deal. Presently he is going round police formations to discredit the confessions of Obaniyi. Worst still, he is desperately trying to doctor the final report on the police missing Millions. Those who share N21 Million were not the ones who committed the original crime. They are accessories after the facts of Billions said to have been stolen by former IG Sunday Ehindero. Ehindero was the one who was said to have given the senior police officers the N21 Million “in order to hear no evil, see no evil and say no evil.”
Ehindero simply shoved N21 Million into their agape mouth while he departed office with N2.5 Billion Police Cooperative funds loaded in his car trunk.
Okiro is aware that his connection with this strange parting gift is a big blight on his otherwise impressive resume. Apart from trying to discredit the commendable openness of Obaniyi, Pointblanknews.com gathered that he has recently sent emissaries with gifts to assist him in persuading notable northern emirs that he is the man best suitable for the job of IG.
The acting Inspector General of Police in his “legitimate quest” to become the head of the Nigerian police is said to have now become a Santa clause, dishing out gifts in a trying time.
