Alamieyesiegha Confesses, Jailed Two Years ...Might Be Released In Few Weeks

Ex-Governor Diepreye Alamieyesiegha

Few days after a secret meeting with Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan, former Bayelsa State Governor Diepreye Alamieyesiegha finally owned up to looting state treasuries running into several Billions of Naira. He pleaded guilty yesterday and was slammed two years behind bars by a Federal High court in Lagos.

Alamieyesiegha was found guilty in six out of the amended 33 count charges.

Each of the six charges that Alamieyeseigha was found guilty of carries two years imprisonment. They are, however, to run concurrently from December 9, 2005 when he was arrested.

Besides, the self-styled Governor General of Ijaw nation is to forfeit four properties, £2.29m, N1 Billion worth of shares in a commercial bank, N105million and $160,000.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Shuaibu, also directed that the properties be sold and the proceeds transferred to the Bayelsa State Government.

He was convicted on six out of the 33 amended charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The judge then said,”By the amended charge with six other liability companies, the first accused person attest to the fact that he knowingly did not declare his assets and pleaded guilty to the said counts.
