Lets See Faces of the Judges
As Nigerians react to the controversial judgment of the Presidential
Election Petition Tribunal on the April 21 presidential election, I wish
to call on the Nigerian media to let us see the faces of the judges who
gave the tribunal judgment.
It was strange that as the Tribunal gave the judgment, the television
stations did not show the faces of the judges who presided over the
case.
Curious, no reason has been given for this failure to let us see the
faces of these judges. It was on the following day that newspapers gave
a condition that their faces must not be shown while delivering the
judgment.
It is therefore suspicious that these judges themselves were eager to
hide their faces from the public. Did this suggest that they knew a
judgment that runs contrary to truth and their conscience?
One can recall that when the National Assembly under Senator Nnamani
debated the Third Term ambition of President Obasanjo in 2006, it was
broadcast on national television and each Senator bore the name of his
father.
Why were the judges who delivered this controversial judgment afraid to
bear their fathers’ names? The only conclusion is that the judges were
not convinced about the judgment they delivered.
It is therefore a challenge to the Nigeria media to let us see the faces
of these judges.
Let us know them so that when we see them on the street we can show our
appreciation or reservation. This is one way that our judges will stop
delivering judgments that fly in the faces of facts and evidences before
them.
