Cameroun recalls Stars

After five years of absence from the national team, Cameroun has recalled striker Joseph Desire Job back to the Indomitable Lions.

The 28-year old, who plays for Sedan, France League 1, was named in a 20-man squad to face Liberia in a Nations Cup qualifier in 24 March.

Job last played for the Indomitable Lions in the 2002 Nations Cup. He is expected to begin training with the squad in Yaoundé on 20 March.

Interim manager Jules Nyonga called the Sedan striker after he scoring seven goals in Ligue 1 so far this season.

Cameroon are top of Group 5 with six points from two games, leading Liberia and Equatorial Guinea, both on three points, and Rwanda who have yet to score a point.

Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o is back in the squad, having returned to club action in February following a four-month absence due to a knee injury.

Hamburg defender Timothee Atouba also returns for the first time since since last year's African Nations Cup in Egypt.

Werder Bremen defender Pierre Wome was left out after failing to show for last month's friendly against Togo.

Wome has not played an international since he missed the October 2005 penalty that would have qualified the team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

U-17 Tourney: South Africa Beat Gabon

South Africa overcame Gabon 3-1 on Tuesday in Group B of the African Under-17 Championship in Togo.

A brace by striker Hermit Erasmus secured the victory in Lome.

South Africa dominated the early exchanges but could not open the scoring until the 42nd minute when Erasmus capitalised on a goalmouth scramble.

Erasmus extended his side's lead five minutes after the interval thanks to a defensive mix-up by the Gabonese.

Gabon rallied and pulled one back fifteen minutes later through Boucka Ulrich but Temba Tsongue secured the win on the stroke of full time with a long range effort.

South Africa are now second in the group after 3-0 to the hosts on Saturday.

Togo play Tunisia in the other Group game later on Tuesday.

All four semi-finalists of the competition will go through to the Fifa Under-17 tournament that will be held in South Korea in June.
