YARADUA’s ECONOMIC COMMITTEE
ACTION NOT COMMITTEE
Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP}, for the umpteenth time states that Nigerians are sick and tied of passive, clueless and ineffectual leadership style of President Umaru Musa Yaradua and his barrage of Committees without Action. What Nigeria earnestly craves for is Action! Action! Action! Nothing more nothing less.
We are appalled that the same government that proclaimed that Nigeria is immune and insulated from the global economic meltdown and that the stock market is healthy, is now waking up from deep slumber; too little too late in the day.
The litany of Committees in the past eighteen months is uncountable, starting with the power, transport, Niger Delta, Electoral Reform Committee, to name but a few, yet no action nor official report.
President Yaradua should stop this orchestra of deception, learn to be proactive and muster the much desired political will to move the country on the path of growth. The danger of orchestra of deception is the grave return to Do-or-Die politics, for while President Yaradua and his spin doctors are feeding fat, thinking they are deceiving Nigerians with barrage of committees, election time approaches and the regime becomes more desperate and nervous.
Whereas, we do not begrudge those appointed to the Economic Committee; however we do not envisage a new idea, except the crony free market capitalism the Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} leadership and their Corporate Nigeria collaborators had embraced and enthroned in Nigeria in the past nine years. An unholy alliance that had denied Nigerians the opportunity to elect true leaders of their choice at all levels and made Corporate Nigeria the beneficiary of decayed infrastructure, decayed refineries and inadequate investment in agriculture , arising from PDP leadership inefficiency.
Are they going to reverse their credo that government has no business in business? Are they going to stop petroleum product importation? Are they going to stop importation of rice and other essential commodities? Can they recover the free fall of the Naira? No! No! No!
We are yet locate the linkage between the Economic Committee and poor implementation of the budget and the linkage between the Economic Committee and recovery of our looted funds and the linkage between the Economic Committee and institutions of democracy, like the National Assembly.
It is our considered view that President Yaradua should be proactive, hence demonstrate more commitment in the implementation of the Budget and recovery of our looted billions and stoppage of the prevailing leakage in the system; in an effort to raise the requisite capital to provide electricity, railways and social services, as prelude to shore up investors confidence and freedom from poverty.
