AKWA IBOM GOVT. TO PROVIDE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR INDUSTRIALISATION
Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio says basic infrastructure must be put in place to ensure effective take-off of industrialization policy in the state.
Chief Akpabio who gave this hint today at the funeral service of Chairman of Ibibio Elders Forum, Obong Dennis Udo-Inyang at Ikot Abia in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area said as part of this process, the state government was about completing Ibom Power Plant to commence operations in July this year.
In addition, he pointed out that the government has embarked on massive road construction in the state to ease transportation of goods and services, adding that the dualised Uyo-Oron Federal Highway would soon be completed and commissioned for use by the people.
On the Akwa Ibom University of Technology sited in the area, the governor disclosed that the university would open for study this year while Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) would list the school in its brochure in March this year.
Governor Akpabio extolled the sterling qualities of Obong Udo-Inyang as a firm believer in the unity of Akwa Ibom, apostle of power shift and a campaigner for the abrogation of On-shore/Off-shore Oil Dichotomy, vowing to ensure the early commissioning of Ikot Abia-Mkpat Enin Road in honour of the departed elder statesman.
He advised the children of the deceased to replicate the good works of the man who, according to him, was a scion of discipline and excellence.
In his tribute, the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu described the deceased as a revered breed of statesmen which exploits form the substance of the legend and a generation which had the courage to believe their deserved a state.
“He was a man of unimpeachable character imbued with a pan-Akwa Ibom vision. But most importantly, he was a father whose heartstrings beat to the rhythm of Akwa Ibom unity and who I depended on for fatherly counsel”, Engr. Ekpotu noted.
The Deputy Governor used the forum to call on the people to ignore criticisms on the slogan “Akwa Ibom is OK”, explaining that it was a prophecy which the people should embrace as a way of life.
Obong Udo-Inyang, 81, was a Commissioner of Finance in the erstwhile South Eastern State and Executive Director (Administration) of Allied Bank of Nigeria Plc, among other positions.
