PRESS RELEASE
GOVERNOR T.A. ORJI SHOULD FORM UNITY GOVERNMENT
The attention of the Human Rights, Justice and Peace Foundation [HRJPF] has been drawn to the upholding of the election of Governor T.A. Orji of Abia State of Nigeria by the Court of Appeal, sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
HRJPF is glad that the scramble for the occupation of Abia most coveted seat is over. With the heat over, governor Orji does not have any plausible reason why he cannot perform. He owes it a duty to judiciously use the resources of Abia State for the improvement of their welfare.
While calling on the defeated gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Abia State, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, to accept the verdict in good fate; the HRJPF calls on Governor Orji to form a unity government, comprising all the registered political parties and other stakeholders in the state. The formation of a unity government has become imperative because it will strengthen the democratic governance in the state.
It is high time government at all levels transited from the era of politics of exclusiveness to politics of inclusiveness; the era where the opposition is not perceived as an enemy that must be destroyed but an alternative/shadow government that can contribute to nation building. Simply put, neither Governor Orji, nor Chief Ugochukwu should see himself as winner or loser. No victor, no vanguished.
