EKITI STATE JUDGMENT

Once again we reiterate our condemnation of the April 2007 sham elections. The judgment delivered by the Appeal Court Ilorin has vindicated our position, by nullifying thousands of illegal votes recklessly awarded by INEC; consequent upon the Appeal Court berated INEC for betraying and subverting our electoral process.

However, we are of the strong view that the heaven could not have fallen, if the Appeal Court have gone the whole hog by declaring the outright winner of the election after a thorough mathematical computation of the genuine votes; thus separating the voided votes from genuine votes. The Hon Justices of Appeal Court Ilorin, did not serve the cause of justice, by this regrettable case of negligence. The cost of re-run election in Ekiti State is unwarranted and avoidable.

On this score, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP}, after a careful mathematical computation of the scores of  Engineer Segun Oni of Peoples Democratic Party {PDP}  and Dr Kayode Fayemi of Action Congress {AC}; came to the inevitable conclusion that Dr Kayode Fayemi should have been declared winner, having  scored 78,334 valid votes as against 65,473 valid votes scored by Engineer Segun Oni, and that Fayemi met the Constitutional requirement of geographical spread, of not less than one quarter of the valid votes in each of at least two thirds of the local governments in the State, by scoring not less than 25% of the valid votes in 13 out of 16 Local Governments in Ekiti State.

CNPP has for the umpteenth time warned that when the temple of justice; can no longer protect the oppressed nor defend the laws of the land and the doctrine of separation of powers, the aggrieved unwittingly will be compelled to resort to self help.

Consequently, CNPP condemns the gross negligence of the Hon Justices of Ilorin Appeal Court in this instance and call on all our members and progressives nationwide to join Dr Kayode Fayemi to recover his stolen mandate duly given by Ekiti people
