Guaranty Trust Bank plc emerges Most IT-Driven Bank of The Year

February 2009: Guaranty Trust Bank plc was recently voted the Most IT Driven Bank of the Year for 2008/2009 at the National Daily Awards presentation ceremony, which held at the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. According to the National Daily’s Board of Editors, the award is coming to GTBank in recognition of its tremendous efforts towards promoting seamless business transactions for its customers through the use of Information Technology.

This award is yet another affirmation of the Bank’s pride of place as an institution which has over the last 18 years, spearheaded the revolutionary growth of Nigeria’s banking industry, earning domestic and international credibility for Nigeria in the process.

Beyond a wide array of Debit card products and e-payment channels, GTBank is also credited with pioneering Real time online banking in 1990 and has over the years championed the introduction of innovative e-products such as Mobile, Telephone and Internet banking in 2002, Slip-free banking in 2006, Nigeria’s first fully interactive self service call centre; GT Connect in 2006 as well as Drive-Through-Banking and GTBank on wheels in 2007.

In addition, Guaranty Trust Bank recorded yet another industry feat as one of Nigeria’s first certified MasterCard International Issuers and Acquirers.

The National Daily Award for Most IT-Driven Bank of the Year 2008 finds good company, as Guaranty Trust Bank’s utilization of cutting edge technologies to deliver excellent customer service has ensured it emerged Best Bank in Mobile Banking at the Nigerian Telecom Awards in 2007 and 2008.

In acknowledging the award, Mrs. Lola Odedina, GTBank’s Deputy General Manager, Communications and External Affairs stated that; “To be celebrated for giving Nigerians the quality of service they deserve is humbling. Our driving principle has always been to take banking wherever the customer decides to live, work or play. This is because in a world where Information Technology constitutes the face and future of banking, GTBank remains committed to ensuring its customers are better equipped to compete favourably in their business and personal lives.”

Notable Nigerians who graced the well-attended occasion include; Prof. Dora Akunyili, Minister for Information and Communication who was Guest Speaker at the event, Senator Anyaogwu Eze, Chairman Senate Committee on Information; Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, Executive Vice Chairman, Nigeria Communications Committee (NCC) and Ambassador Segun Olusola, founder of the African Refugee Foundation. Also in attendance were guests from a wide spectrum of industry sectors, including manufacturing, banking, hospitality, media and entertainment. The Guaranty Trust Bank delegation was led by Mr. Wale Williams, the bank’s Manager, E-Business Support.
