CALLING ON OUR YOUTHS TO LAY DOWN ARMS AS A MATTER OF URGENCY TO STOP THE UNABATED CARNAGE IN THE STATE
We view the killings of the three high Chiefs and some elders of Ogbokoro community in Obio Akor LGA of Rivers State in cold blood by militants who felt betrayed by the community by given out their identity to the JTF and subsequent arrest of those concerned in the killings of these community Leaders couple with the murder of the yet to be identified foreigner’s decomposed corpse that was seen floating on the Ogbokoro river recently and the general insecurity prevalent in Rivers State as at today as a result of total neglect of the plight of our people by the past governments both at State and National level and of course the arming of our youths by some unscrupulous politicians who wants to perpetuate themselves and stooges in office.
This carnage is no longer acceptable to us as this development has brought a lot of bad image and lost of lives of our people. And as concerned leaders of our people this is no longer acceptable to us. It is sad that we have a government that does not heed to advice. we know that we have advised the government of Rivers State that the invitation of the military if not coupled with consultation of genuine stake-holders of the state that include the elders, religious and traditional Leaders, academia, perceived opposition Chieftains and even the militants will not fetch the desired peace in the state and today we are vindicated . Be as it may, not minding the obvious short comings of the present administration in the State, we are calling all our youths, all cultist and militant groups in the state for the sake of the image and future of our region and state in particular to lay down their arms and embrace peace of the Federal Government and stop further carnage in our state in the name of militancy or whatever and stop further threat to investors, oil firms and facilities and instead turn themselves as protective agencies for the protection of the oil facilities and investors in the region. In doing this our battered image can be rebuild and be restored. Let us give the administration of President Yaradua and Vice P resident Jonathan Goodluck who is our brother a chance as they have demonstrated firm commitment to rights all the wrongs of the past administrations in the country against our region.
Finally, we wish to symphatise with the Naval Command particularly the families of the four Naval Officers killed during the cults war in the State every other family that may have lost any of their member or property in the course of these unfortunate developments in our state and pray that God will grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the departure of their dear ones.
