PRESS STATEMENT MARCH 22 2009

CONSPIRANCY TO DESTABILIZE YARADUA GOVERNEMNT

HEIGHT OF PDP’ FALSE ALARM

Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP}, condemns in totality the ignoble and cowardly false alarm, dished out yesterday by Peoples Democratic Party {PDP}.

We are appalled that the PDP leadership is so tepid and cowardly, that they cannot  muster the guts to name and indeed report the opposition leaders, that is, the culprits they had unearthed in a conspiracy to destabilize the government of President Umaru Musa Yaradua.

We recall that this is not the first time PDP is shamelessly crying Wolf, where the only Wolf is the PDP leadership, whose metaphor is gross incompetence, inefficiency and crass corruption.

CNPP for the avoidance of doubt wishes to state that PDP leadership in their obsession to ruin Nigeria for sixty years should be held responsible in the event of the collapse of our fledgling democracy and indeed disintegration of Nigeria.

Is it the opposition leaders or President Yaradua, who breach Section 14{2}{b} of the 1999 Constitution, which declared that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary objective of government?

PDP leadership after wasting Nigeria’s golden-oil-age from 1999 to date, squandering over $88 billion; should be bold to tell Nigerians the names of the opposition leaders that stopped ex-president Chief Olusegun Obsanjo and his hand- picked successor, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yaradua from using over $13 billion spent on electricity project to provide Nigerians electricity or over $10 billion spent on repair of refineries to rehabilitate our refineries?

CNPP is in league with Labour and other progressives will oppose the deregulation of the down stream sector of the oil industry; using any lawful means including mass action.

It is our considered view that the PDP leadership should stop auctioning our commonwealth; for four years after they bought NITEL with peanuts, NITEL has not recovered.

CNPP wishes to warn that the plan by the PDP to use the Nigeria Police to stop the planned mass action is illegal, high handed and act of desperation; as the CNPP has through legal battles succeeded in repealing the obnoxious Public Order Act. Chief Vincent Ogbulafor’s  fascist statement cannot stop the defense of our inalienable democratic rights.

CNPP has severally argued that no nation can attain a capitalist state without first investing and actualizing an industrial society, predicated on concrete infrastructure; hence we cannot join the PDP in their penchant of squandering our vital resources without commensurate results.

In conclusion, how can PDP leadership,  in all sincerity remain trapped inside the collapsed free market ideology and Washington consensus; when Washington, London, Paris, Bonn are investing  billions of state dollars , as stimulus package to shore up their public and private owned enterprises, infrastructure and social services?
