PRESS STATEMENT
IMO DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS
Following the Judgment of the Court Appeal which upheld Mr. Ikedi Ohakim as the duly elected Governor of Imo State, the Congress wishes to state as follows:
- The decisions of the Court of Appeal is not anywhere near the expectations of the people. This was shown in the reaction of the people who were least excited at the -outcome; be that as it may the out come remains final.
- We condemn in strong terms the Nigerian Judiciary which has suddenly become a commodity market where the highest bidder buys Justice as well as their double standards as exemplified in the Judgments of Bayelsa/Imo, Sokoto/Kebbi, Oyo/Ondo where cases were similar but different Judgments given. History will indeed leave a small place for Judges who ordinarily should be men of honour but who now offer themselves to the highest bidder thereby miscarrying Justice.
- We also express our shock at the leadership of PDP both at State and the Federal who never lent support to the Senator Araraume a man who helped to build PDP from foundation, ratherhis part were hobnobbing with a rival party man because the man had bread to dish out to their hungry souls.
- We therefore urge Imo People to remain prayerful, stead fast, focused and patient and refuse to see the present situation in Imo as permanent as the Good Lord will at all times remember a suffering and dehumanized people whether in Egypt or Isreal, Imo State therefore cannot escape the attention of Almighty God.
- That Imo Democratic Congress shall continue to act as a watch dog of Government activities in Imo and therefore has no intention of winding up activities as result of the unfortunate judgment.
- We urge the Government in Owerri to show some level of commitment to Governance, transparency and prudence as well as a review of all odd and anti human policies which has put the majority at the receiving end. We further urge the Government to concentrate on rural development, where over 80% of people reside and ensure it becomes habitable and accommodating.
- We wish to commend Imo State Government for not taking it out on their opponents especially Sen. Araraume’s supporters as no report of molestation, intimidation, physical harm have been reported whether in Owerri or any other part of the State.
- We urge all hands to be on deck and move Imo forward as Imo cannot afford to lose another two years again to politicking in whatever name.
- We salute Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and indeed his supporters and other lovers of democracy for putting up a gallant fight without violence in their pursuit of Justice.
- We urge Chief Ikedi Ohakim to use the Yakubu Gowon approach in achieving the much needed peace, development and brotherliness which Imo needs now.
