PRESS RELEASE
RESTORE ATIKU SECURITY AIDES NOW! – ENAHORO
Elder statesman, Chief Anthony Enahoro and key leaders of the proposed mega party have described the unceremonious removal of the security details of former Vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar as vindictive and petty.
The removal of Atiku’s police orderlies is suspected to be unconnected to his current stance on electoral reform and the need for political leaders in the country to form a formidable mega party to challenge the PDP.
According to a statement issued on Friday in Lagos by the secretariat of the Summit Group, the Elder statesman and other leaders of the new movement are said to be deeply perturbed at the increasing panicky tactics employed by the leadership of PDP in the last one week .
Speaking on behalf of the frontline nationalist, Mr Olawale Okunniyi, the group’s scribe said “ no reactionary action such as the mindless removal of the police escorts of the former vice president can stop the emerging revolutionary trend in the country ;as the time is now ripe for the people to recover the nation back from its captors”
The spokesperson of the president; Segun Adeniyi has already been quoted as saying, he was aware that the police authorities were implementing the recommendations of the Police Reform Committee, headed by former Inspector-General of Police, Mr M.D Yusuf.
We are not impressed by such excuse at a time when Atiku is in the forefront of the activism against the unpopular white paper of government on the justice Uwais panel report on electoral reform, Okunniyi said
“The action of the police authorities is unprovoked and inauspicious at a period when Atiku is entangled in a cross fire with the leadership of the ruling party over electoral reform.
In this connection, we call on president Yar’ adua to immediately prevail on the police command to restore back the full security details of Atiku to prevent unnecessary heating up of the polity”
