PRONACO ASSURES EKITI PEOPLE OF SUPPORT
The people of Ekiti state have been charged to defend their sacred mandate during the forthcoming re run gubernatorial elections in the state.
This call is coming on the heels of pervasive threat to free and fair polls in the state following strong altercations between PDP and AC; accusing each other of plans to employ force and violence during the forthcoming polls.
PRONACO speaking through its Spokesman, Mr Olawale Okunniyi, the Enahoro led coalition, which gave a draft constitution to the country last year, said the popular mass of the state must rise up against the do or die politics of political gladiators and be alert to resist all the antics of reckless politicians during electioneering.
His words, “No popular governance can ever be realised through electoral malpractices and use of coercion. If the good people of Ekiti open their eyes wide and allow their predators to entice or intimidate them through the use of money or force, they will be the worst for the misgovernance that will follow”
Okunniyi said the leadership of PRONACO shall be sending a high powered team to the state to observe the elections and to coordinate the intervention of its affiliates as they have received some entreaties from some respectable members of PRONACO from the state to be part of the effort at safeguarding the peoples’ mandate.
The progressive people of Ekiti, during this period, should be confident of our physical support in ensuring that they are not intimidated and their mandate stolen again. We shall be with them this time and ensure that their mandate is protected.
All affiliates of PRONACO are also expected to direct their members to give objective support to the electoral process in the state so as to ensure that the peoples’ choice emerged in the re run polls, Okunniyi said
PRONACO however cautioned the military and political thugs to steer clear of Ekiti state and not to interfere in the poll to avoid unwarranted confrontation between them and the civil populace. He however warned that the elections would be better off without the use of state coercion and thuggery.
