PRESS STATEMENT 24TH APRIL 2009
EKITI ELECTION TEST CASE FOR YARADUA
Whereas, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP} acknowledges President Umaru Musa Yaradua’s statement at the Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} convention, to the effect that he is still committed to genuine electoral reforms; however CNPP challenges Mr President to use the Ekiti Governorship re-run as a test case.
CNPP is posing this challenge because Nigerians are fatigued and no more believe nor trust President Yaradua and his high profound statements and promises that are broken at will.
The Ekiti election will put to rest our fear that a biased umpire like Professor Maurice is retained by PDP leadership as an axe-man, for no other lame excuse but to execute this kind of hatchet and odd job for a party that had lost the confidence of Nigerians.
CNPP calls on INEC to deliver the results on the spot and the final result in Ondo State; for any result delivered out of Ondo State to us is null and void and of no effect.
Consequently, we challenge President Yaradua to call his men to order and jettison the Do-or-Die epitaph of his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
