Oyo State; 2 Years of Deceit and Broken Promises
On May 29, 2009, the PDP government will celebrate 10 years of Democracy; the Oyo State government under the leadership of the Court of Appeals appointed Governor Chief Alao Akala will join other PDP ruling States and the PDP controlled federal government in the celebration. It is no doubt that over one billion naira of Oyo State Citizens tax money would be spent on frivolous advertisement, church and mosque thanks giving services, sponsor rallies and hiring of praise singers to glorify their Excellency, his wives, and children for two years. As for us in DPP, we declare May 29 as a day of mourning for every indigene of Oyo State, for the entire two years of Alao Akala were months of waste, pains, agonies, insecurity, underdevelopment, backwardness, deceit and broken promises embedded in Mega corruption of the highest order.
Since Alao Akala hijacked the leadership of Oyo State through a campaign of terror and massively rigged elections of April 2007, the old capital of the South West dubbed as Pace Setter State has never known peace. The PDP forceful invasion of Agodi Government house after the Akala swearing in on May 29, 2007 was a big calamity followed by the looting of our treasuries, insecurity, and worker’s strike resulting in a massive breakdown of law and order in the State. It is on record that the Alao Akala government has not been able to account for over 50 billion naira received from the Federation account as part of the oil money allocated to Oyo State.
We challenge Chief Alao Akala to publish the State Monthly Financial Allocation and Internal Generated Revenue in the last two years and also publish his achievements in order for the people to justify if his achievements are commensurate with the resources available for his administration for 24 months. We allege further that all the projects of his administration are premeditated white elephant projects aiming at defrauding unsuspecting members of the public. The only area which his administration performed ‘creditably’ is areas of reckless spending, lies and advanced thuggery.
While other States were busy in the last two years embarking on laudable projects to develop their State by spending on education, agriculture and infrastructures, it is on record that the first project embarked upon by Akala was a lavish birthday party for his wife and a rally to mark his own birthday at the expense of Oyo State indigene. While the Oyo State workers are dying of hunger, the administration embarked on paying fat salaries to all political office holders including the wives of councilors with expensive cars been purchased for the wives of local government chairmen of the State. The State governor spent 100 million naira for his daughter’s wedding, while Akala’s crave for chieftaincy titles cost Oyo State a highly substantial amount of money that was shredded in secrecy by the state government. In fact, all that has happened in the last two years was a gross abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, misappropriation of public funds, and flagrant breach of oath of office.
We need to put on record that Akala’s two years as the governor of Oyo State, during which period he presided over the finances, human and natural resources, assets and liabilities of the State was a total failure. It will be a great disservice to our State and moral corruption on our part if we fail to point it out that PDP years in Oyo State have been an era of holocaust.
Chief Alao Akala in the last two years has wreaked so much havoc that generations, yet unborn, would live to know that once upon a time an unrepentant vagabond captured the State and unleashed the most devastating attack on all facets of people’s life together with his squad of political vampires and other lawless marauders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who sucked the State dry economically, morally culturally and politically.
The people of Oyo State have now begun to realize that the four years of Alliance for Democracy, (AD) under Lam Adesina with little resources, regardless of the damages caused to his administration by his errant children and his uncultured wife were far better than the total of Ladoja and Akala wasteful years with enormous financial allocations to the State from the Federal Government.
Today, Nigeria still remains a country of pain where lives are short and brutish. We have a repressive, visionless but vicious government at the center and state levels that care less about youth and senior citizens. We have a terror government that uses army and coercive apparatus of States to close down media houses, rig elections in Sokoto, Akwa-Ibom and the recent shameful robbery in Ekiti State. We are presently being governed by a serpent leader under the rule of the heartless men of PDP. The rule of law is an ordinary mantra in the mouth of the deceptive leadership of PDP, while all the electioneering promises have been broken with impunities. The last 24months has seen our anti-corruption agencies weakened while people like Ribadu have been chased outside the country with corrupt people ‘calling the shots’ in the administration that claimed to posses zero tolerance to corruption.
The greatest threat to our national security today is PDP as an assembly of looters and political rascals that have made life unbearable for every citizen.
It is on this note that we buttress our assertion that we have nothing to celebrate other than to mourn the government of PDP at all levels. This period calls for a sober reflection and strong determination to come together as one in order to liberate our State and take it away from the jaws of the gangsters. We cannot solve the challenges of our time except we all come together as one. Our strength does not only lie in our numbers, but our unity and strong determination to collapse the present Babylonian empire of PDP in Oyo State and the entire federation.
Every generation out of their relative obscurity discovers their mission to fulfill or betray it. It is our responsibilities to save our nascent democracy by taking our destiny into our hand. Our appeal goes to the Nigerian media of which many journalists paid supreme price of their life in the struggle for Nigerian democracy. The Nigeria Labor Congress, (NLC), should stand firm in support of the truth. The Nigeria Bar Association should not fold their arms in such a time like this. We call on all civil rights organizations, (CD, CLO, OPC, MASSOB, NANS, CDHR) and opinion leaders to stand up in defense of our hard earned democracy. It is time to work together to save our State from total collapse and restore its glory as the proud Pace Setter State.
