HRJPF CONDEMNS MARGINALIZATION OF SOUTH-EAST JUDGES

The Human Rights, Justice and Peace Foundation [HRJPF] is immensely shocked by the exclusion of judges of South-East origin from the list of eleven nominated by the Federal Government to Court of Appeal.

It is disheartening that, despite the existence of highly qualified judges of south-east origin, the Federal Government did not consider them fit for elevation to the appellate court. This singular act does not only cast aspersion on the Federal Character principle but also has been construed as a grand design to scheme out the south-east from the nation’s appellate court.

While condemning the action of the Federal Government, the HRJPF calls for a review of the list, with at least two judges of south-east origin included among others for elevation into the appellate court. This will not only re-assure the people of the south-east that they are not second class citizens in Nigeria but also renew their faith and commitment in the Nigeria project.

Comrade Chidi Nwosu,

President.
