LAGOS AC SLAMS DPA OVER ALPHA BETA.
The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has urged the Lagos DPA to engage in mature and constructive criticisms rather than indulge in the fantasy that it can cause mischief between the present state government and the people of the state. The party says it issued this advice in view of the DPA’s notorious penchant to read negative meanings into every action of the Lagos State government.
In a release in Lagos, signed by the party’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, Lagos AC says that the attempt by the Lagos DPA to read mischief into the present contract with Alpha Beta Company is bad politics and an opportunistic way of seeking political relevance. It insists that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the contract, which has intensely benefited the Lagos State government and the good people of Lagos State.
“It is surprising that the DPA is questioning why Alpha Beta should be paid their rightful commission for revving up tremendously the revenue of the state. It is on record that Alpha Beta has raised the Internally Revenue profile of the state from a meager N600 million in 1999 to N15 billion in 2009. This achievement, wrought through deft financial ingenuity, has been the reason why Lagos State is making the kind of progress it is making today. Not only that, Alpha Beta has, through financial engineering and the deployment of modern financial tools, plugged all the loopholes through which people shortchange the government and has saved tremendous resources for the development of Lagos. This great and well-acknowledged streak of achievement is the reason why Lagos State has been acknowledged as the oasis of progress in a democracy that is noted for its negative values to the people.
“We know that the best practice in every part of the world is the payment of commission to a company that engages in the kind of services Alpha Beta is doing in Lagos State. What Alpha Beta is receiving is nothing other than its just wages for the tremendous work it is doing for the government and people of Lagos State and we do not see any reason for the grouse of the DPA. When the company has excelled so well in the task of generating funds for the funding of the gigantic transformational works in Lagos that started since 1999, we wonder why the DPA is belly-aching that they are being paid for their services. We see all these as bad and unproductive politics for which the one-man show called Lagos DPA is noted.
“Lagos AC is overjoyed that the present government has refused to be distracted by the mischievous antics of nay sayers like the DPA who command no following in Lagos but feels so self-righteous as to ventilate hot airs in the media for the purpose of scoring cheap political advantages. We are proud and happy of the present government in Lagos, which is a continuation of the progressive and development-oriented government that had been in place in Lagos since 1999. We urge the Fashola administration to ignore the distraction, which Lagos DPA has constituted itself into and continue on his wonderful works to take Lagos to the best ever level of development.”
