PRESS STATEMENT 2nd August 2009
Buhari, Atiku rally for MEGA PARTY
Following the demonstration of warped perception of the mega party initiative by the Sunday Compass of 2 nd August 2009, the leadership of the Mega Summit Movement, MSM wishes to state clearly that although the Pro National Conference Organization, PRONACO has encouraged its affiliates members to participate in the mega party initiative aimed at mobilizing Nigerians to challenge and wrestle power from the present ruling clique in Nigeria, PRONACO as a group is not one of the building blocks of the proposed mega party.
It should therefore be clearly noted that PRONACO is not a recognized platform in the new Mega Party arrangement; as its affiliate groups and political parties are purely in the Mega Summit Movement on their own discretion and terms. To that extent, PRONACO has strongly demonstrated that it will not like to be dragged into the fiction of any make believe tussle over the control of the mega party initiative as being painted by Yar’Adua agents and their moles trying to scuttle the historic process by causing disaffection within the fold of the mega party proponents .
MSM also wants to clarify that the leader of PRONACO, Chief Anthony Enahoro and other members and allies of PRONACO, who are involved the ongoing process of forming a Mega Party has also clearly demonstrated before now that they only represent themselves and their various political parties in the new formation. For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Anthony Enahoro is the Chair of the National Reformation Party, NRP. Chief Olu Falae, a respectable member of PRONACO, is the Chairman of the Democratic Peoples’ Alliance, DPA. Chief Arthur Nwankwo is the Chairman of Peoples’ Mandate Party and Alhaji Balarabe Musa is the Chairman of the Peoples’ Redemption Party, PRP. Prof Pat Utomi is the leader of African Democratic Congress, ADC, while Dr Tunji Braithwaite is the leader of National Advance Party among other PRONACO allies in the new movement mobilizing for popular political reform.
MSM would also like to confirm that both General Muhammadu Buhari and Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, who are also great sympathizers of PRONACO, have just sealed an alliance to strengthen the Mega Party initiative and have said they have no cause to dump the most viable option of saving the sinking ship of the country via an all inclusive platform . As a matter of fact both Buhari and Atiku, in the interest of the nation, have also separately reaffirmed their unalloyed commitment to the Mega Party as a veritable platform to save democracy and restore power in real sense to the people come 2011.
Finally, in making popular political reform a reality in Nigeria come 2011, the MSM is already contacting its leaders and allies nationwide for a ‘Save Democracy’ rally in Abuja, where the leaders of the movement will formally present its private members bill to the national assembly and address the international community. Expected to be part of the mass rally, proposed for end of august, are all leaders of the MSM, Labour leaders, students’ leaders, civil rights activists, market women, artisan groups among others.
