ANNOUNCING THE D3 CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK
The Delta State Executive Council has approved an International Summit with the theme “the Role of Delta Diasporans in Human Capital Development, Peace Building and Sustainable Development of Delta State” and the formal inauguration/launch of the D3 Initiative by His Excellency, Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, to be held in New York, USA, September 1-2, 2009 .
The D3 initiative (Delta Diaspora Direct) is designed to accelerate the socio-economic development of Delta State, by imaginatively linking Deltans abroad, especially tested professionals, multi-disciplinary experts and business executives with home-based talents to work in tandem with the Delta State Government, for the rapid socio-economic development of the state.
The initiative is a bye-product of the First Information Summit and the unveiling of the True Face of Delta (TFD), on August 27, 2008 by His Excellency the Governor. It is estimated that the population of Delta State professionals and business people in Diaspora is over one million and the D3 initiative will provide a veritable platform for mobilizing their technical expertise, financial resources and web of contacts around the world to support developmental programmes in the State, especially those in the thematic areas of Peace and Security, Human Capital Development and Infrastructure Development. The initiative is also in tandem with the current administration’s “Delta without oil” economic strategies, designed to diversify the state economy away from over dependence on crude oil earnings for its programmes and activities.
