LAGOS AC FLAYS SECTION OF MEDIA FOR REPORT ON AREGBESOLA.
The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has lambasted a section of the media for allowing themselves to be used by the desperate Oyinlola government in its present effort to once again pervert the court of justice in the re-ordered trial of the election petition brought by the AC candidate, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola. The party said the way and manner some media shamelessly parroted an obviously syndicated and false report that Aregbesola was hiding in the ceiling at the time of his arrest and that he offered bribe to the police men that came for his arrest was not only irresponsible, reckless and shameful but demonstrates the danger the media is facing in the corrupting hands of the same desperadoes that are dragging the media to the mud for their selfish interests.
In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, the party said that it was not surprised given the narrow partisan and selfish interests of the three papers that did that tendentious reporting. It therefore called that these media houses be punished by the respective regulatory institutions so as to deter others from this dangerous practice.
“Our immediate reaction to this false news item that was obviously sponsored by the desperate cabal that is fighting to retain the stolen mandate in Osun was that these channels of deliberate falsehood do not know the person of Aregbesola. We know that the purveyors of this shameless falsehood were merely fascinated by the illicit gain they made from parroting a reckless lie, which speaks so low of the quality of media practice in this decadent era.
“Lagos AC wants to state, for the avoidance of doubts, that Aregbesola is a fearless and stoic fighter for human and democratic rights and remains unfazed in the face of the present orchestrated persecution. Unlike the characters that are prosecuting the present battle against him, he is tested in battle against bad and evil government and the present immoral impostors in Osun are the least of the battles he has engaged in is the present one with immoral vote robbers in Osun and their patronizing propagandists.
“Lagos AC is dismayed that a section of the media should allow itself to be manipulated into becoming a shameless instrument for the prosecution of the dirty business of the power mongers who are scared of their fate in the tribunals as to resort to purveyors of absurd falsehood for the mess of porridge they scoop for such base job.
“While we condemn the conduct of these media houses, we call that proper sanction be meted out to these media houses, we call on the general public to be wary of these publications and ensure they treat similar stories from these media houses with suspicion for this deliberate act of professional misconduct. We see this as the best possible measure to guard against the employment of the media for ulterior motives by desperate politicians in the future.”
