Lagos AC mourns Gani, the irreplaceable icon
The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has joined millions of Nigerians to mourn the death of irrepresible lawyer and foremost human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi. The party sees the death of Gani as creating a vacuum that will never ever be filled in Nigeria.
In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, the party says that the death of Chief Fawehinmi has opened a yawning gap, which will adversely affect the country in the years to come. It advises that the country immortalise Gani as evidence to generations yet unborn of the limitless possibilities that exist in such a badly governed country like Nigeria.
"Gani remained among the few crop of finest Nigerians that ever lived. He remains among the finest lawyers ever produced by Nigeria. He was the greatest defender of helpless and hapless Nigerian masses and remains, even in death as the greatest bulwark against tyrants, dictatrors and corrupt leaders who have taken turns to cripple the country.
"Lagos AC still remembers Gani as the most detailed and thorough actvist that ever lived in Nigeria and ranks among the best the world has ever produced. Gani remains one of the most fearless human beings that have ever lived and remains the most outspoken Nigerian to walk the sands of time. He remains the most astutute player on Nigeria's political landscape.
"We see Gani as the tallest and biggest iroko in the Nigerian space, a fearless humanist and an icon for progressive change the country can never ever replace. He was the giant tree on which persescuted Nigerians perched for succor and with his demise, our fears ring loud that there is no where else for Nigerians to perch.
"Lagos AC believes that to write about Gani will take several thousands of pages as he remains one of the most transparent and well known Nigerians that have ever lived. He may have gone but thousands of Nigerians whose lives he positively influenced, whose behaviours, beliefs, thoughts and worldviews he impacted with his examplary lfe of undilluted patriotism and unmatched nationalism will continue to carry the huge banner he left behind.
"We mourn today the demise of our last frontier of hope against a raging leadership decay, an incomparable strong voice against corruption, electoral fraud and dictatorship of all guise. We mourn today the death of the irrefutable conscience of the nation and an icon of progress in a land where decay and rot have been promoted to national creed.
"We console the family, friends, the millions of followers, admirers, associates of the fallen icon and we pray God to grant him the eternal repose, which was denied him here on earth."
Joe Igbokwe.
