“RETURN TO WORK”, LAGOS AC PLEADS WITH LAGOS TEACHERS.

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has pleaded with Lagos State teachers to give the state government a chance to address its grievances. The party therefore urges the teachers to go back to their classes while the state government works out ways to meet their present demands.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, Lagos AC says that the state teachers are dear to the present transformational efforts of the Fashola administration and that they need to demonstrate understanding with the peculiar needs of the state while the state governments finds answers to their problems. It therefore advises Lagos teachers to shorn the tempting  advice from those who are whipping up self serving sentiments on the issue so as to incite them against the state government.

“Lagos teachers know that the numbers of teachers in the employ of the Lagos State government is the highest in the country. They also know that the strength of Lagos teachers is far more than that of about ten states put together. Lagos teachers know equally that Lagos State is facing monumental challenges in infrastructural development that no state in Nigeria faces. They know that Lagos State has a population strength no state in Nigeria has and must attend to the needs of this teeming number of Nigerians that come to Lagos every day for greener pastures.

“Lagos AC believes that Lagos teachers are partners in progress in the lofty dream of transforming Lagos for all Nigerians and that they also see the need to sacrifice for that desired state that works for all. We are sure that Lagos teachers know the heavy investment the Lagos State government is making in all facets of Lagos to secure the state for all of us and they are also joint partakers in the glory of a new emerging Lagos, which has been an oasis of progress in a laid back country like Nigeria.

“We want to assure the industrious teachers of Lagos State that the state will attend to their demands and commensurately remunerate them because we see the need to do so within the context of the new Lagos that is unraveling before our very eyes. We want to assure them that they have a government that is there for them and for all Lagosians and that the Fashola government is working for their interests. We therefore urge them to accede to the request of the able and dynamic Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) to return to work while the government works towards implementing the contentious Teachers Salary Scale. We want them to note that present government will attend to their demand in no distant time and in line with other engaging needs of the state. We therefore urge Lagos teachers to ignore those whose pastime revolves around inciting mischief and wishing for mayhem for Lagosians in fulfillment of their selfish desires. They should ignore these job-comforters who are always forum-shopping for mischief to mitigate the wonderful the AC government is doing in Lagos presently.

“Lagos AC therefore tells our teachers to return to work without further delay so as to enable the government attend to their request. We assure our teachers that they are our prized assets who will drive the new Lagos the Fashola administration is building now. We urge them to understand this important role and return to work, fully assured that we have a governor who will take their interests seriously while securing Lagos for not just this generation but the generations to come”.
