Buhari, Atiku, Bafarawa, others set to launch Mega Party
The newly formed National Democratic Movement, NDM is to work with the Mega Summit Movement to launch a formidable pro people political party before the end of the year.
This is the highpoint of the consultative meeting hosted by the Northern trio of General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar and Alhaji Attahiru Bafawa in Abuja on Wednesday.
Addressing stakeholders at the parley former vice president Atiku Abubarkar, charged the two movements to, within a reasonable time frame, put in place the much expected mega alternative political platform in the interest of the country.
His position was well supported by both General Muhammadu Buhari , Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa and other eminent political actors at the historic meeting, where the trio and their supporters openly demonstrated resolve to work together.
Commenting on the outcome of the parley, media director of the Mega Summit Movement, Alhaji Hamisu San Turaki said yesterday in Abuja that the decision of the two platforms to work together is not unexpected as most members of the new northern initiative, including the trio of Buhari, Atiku and Bafarawa are already members of the Mega Summit Movement.
“The Mega Movement is resolved to embrace all emergent initiatives committed to arresting the drift in the country. We are already in consultations with similar platforms like Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, CODER, Labour-Civil Society Coalition and the Good Governance Group with a view to bringing all patriotic platforms into one single block to form a formidable alternative force to rescue democracy”
In this connection, he said the Mega Summit Movement will be hosting a 2 day national retreat this weekend in Lagos on the manifesto and constitution of the proposed mega party under the chairmanship of former Lagos State Governor Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
A harmonization parley of all key democrats is also being facilitated by a team comprising Dr Tunji Braithwaite, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dr Arthur Nwakwo and Prof Pat Utomi to hold next week to resolve differences and grey areas in the march to the National Summit next month where the mega platform will be announced.
