Press Release on Nigeria Terrorism
December 26 2009
It is with the deepest horror and disbelief that we watched as news of the attempted terrorist attack on a United States Airliner by a Nigerian terrorist was relayed over the airwaves on Christmas day, 2009. We join the Government and people of the United States and the free world in condemning in the strongest terms this dastardly act by the Nigerian terrorist.
The Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE), on behalf of the government and people of Biafra, wishes to categorically and unequivocally dissociate itself from this despicable act by the Nigerian terrorist and to express our support for and solidarity with the Government and people of the United States.
We also wish to make it perfectly clear that for years BGIE has been warning the governments of the free world through our radio broadcasts, the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI), that Nigeria is a terrorist state, a hotbed of terrorism and Islamic Jihadism directed especially against the Christian people of Biafra; but that the Nigeria terrorists will ultimately spread their tentacles to Europe and the United States. We are deeply saddened that these warnings appear not to have been heeded.
We are relieved and at the same time delighted that the terrorist attack failed and that no American citizens or other innocent passengers were seriously injured or killed in this brazen act of madness.
Once again we urge the United States government and the governments of the free world to recognize that, as presently constituted, "Nigeria" forces together nations and their peoples who do not share similar visions and ways of life. The Nation of Biafra and her people do not support terrorism, are not anti-Western civilization or anti-world or anti-humanity. The Nation and people of Biafra are not at war with the US or the Western world or with any other countries for that matter. We believe that it is time for, and in the best interest of, the US and the World, to permit an enabling environment whereby the nation of Biafra can separate out of Nigeria in order to stand alone in her true character, alongside other independent, responsible and progressive countries of the world. Otherwise, the current structure of Nigeria remains; this structure serves only to ensure that immense resources will be forcefully taken from Biafra and will be used to finance terrorism and other anti-US, anti-West activities, just like we have witnessed today.
Signed:
Emmanuel Enekwechi, PhD.
Prime Minister, Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE)
