NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA TOP MEGA PARTY AGENDA
The national movement for alternative political platform and electoral reform in Nigeria, centrally being driven by the Mega Summit Movement, MSM wishes to assure the nation that it will give priority to the marginalized and vulnerable people of the country, including women, youth, Nigerians in Diaspora and the informal sector in its party programme billed to kick of early next year.
This assertion was the highpoint of the end of year message of the movement released in Abuja on Monday to appreciate Nigerians for the unwavering support and concern for the movement initiated in October 2008 to xray the Nigerian situation and proffer practical steps to solving the country’s political crisis.
The movement, which recently alerted the nation of the plot of PDP led government to sponsor schism in its fold and intimidate some of its notable leaders with its operatives wishes to reaffirm the authority vested in its Stakeholders’ Council and Steering Committee of 45 very eminent Nigerians from the six geo political zones in the country.
The movement is also using this opportunity to clarify that its operates a collegiate system under the leadership of Chief Anthony Enahoro ably assisted by Chief Olu Falae, Chair of the Steering Committee and Mr Wale Okunniyi, Secretary of the movement.
Other key conveners of the highest organ of MSM include; Gen Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, Alhaji Bafarawa, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chief Arthur Nwankwo, Prof Pat Utomi, Alhaji Lawan Keita, Alhaji Yusuf Ali, Chief Harry Akande, Senator Sulaimon Salawu, Chief Shitta bay, Chief John Nwodo, Group Captain Sam Ewang, Barrister Femi Falana among others.
Furthermore, MSM reiterates that no other organ, committee or team outside the collegial structure of its highest organ has the power to take any policy or political decision on behalf of the movement. Therefore anything to the contrary is void and of no effect as far as the leadership of the movement is concerned
We also wish to inform that MSM merely sets up six contact teams in October 2009 to reach out and mobilize notable political actors in the zones, who were yet to be active in the movement at that time and nothing more. MSM is yet to constitute formal zonal caucuses or branches as being touted in some quarters.
The movement however expresses optimism in the ongoing harmonization effort between Mega Summit and National Democratic Movement. We enthuse that the recently released preliminary report of MSM/NDM Harmonisation committee co chaired by Prof Pat Utomi and Dr Sule Hamma has great potentials to give birth to the most formidable mega party in the political annals of Nigeria.
Signed
Olawale Okunniyi
