Lagos AC Charges IG on Komolafe’s Murder

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has urged the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonnaya Onovo to ensure that no stone is left unturned to unravel the people behind the killing of Chief. Ade Komolafe, a supporter of the AC in Osun State and the Managing Director of DHL. The party says the killing is one too many in the rich history of political killings in Osun State since the PDP smuggled itself into Osun State in 2003.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, the party said that the brutal killing of Chief. Komolafe by a group of hoodlums led by a local government chairman is a topping of the PDP’s deadly attempt to remain in power at all costs. It says that this is one callous display of impunity that must not be allowed to go unpunished.

“Nigerians must recall that it was in the wake of the attempt to forcefully seize Osun State in 2003 that Chief Bola Ige was killed and his alleged killers were rewarded with high political offices. Nigerians must also recall that it was in the attempt by the PDP to sustain the rotten mandate in Osun State in the re-run to the 2007 elections that Alhaji Hassan Olajoku, a financier of the AC was murdered and his murderers are yet to be found. Nigerians are equally aware of the numerous innocent citizens murdered in cold blood by rampaging PDP armed goons during the governorship election in the state in 2007, in an effort to steal the votes of the Osun electorates.

“However, we see the recent murder of Chief. Komolafe, who was beaten to death by known hoodlums commanded by a local government chairman in Osun State, one Mr. Ibukun Fadipe, as one case of reckless impunity that must not be swept under the carpet. Our insistence that Osun has been a killing field under Oyinlola and his PDP, who deign nothing as sacred in their do-or-die effort to force themselves down the throats of Osun people. We demand in very strong terms that the culprits who are well known must immediately be brought to books.

“Lagos AC is appalled that the Osun State police has stoically refused to investigate the PDP and the Osun State government in the many incessant killings of opposition figures in Osun State but has instead made itself a willing ally in the ceaseless impunity that has been unleashed on the members of the AC in Osun State. We are worried that several days after the death of Chief. Komolafe, the known culprits have not been arrested, which heightens our worry that the police is heavily compromised on the Osun issues. We would not be surprised that the police will soon carry out a mass arrest and persecution of AC members in Osun State in their well-known tactics to divert attention from the issue and allow the culprits to escape their just punishment. We want to warn the police that we would not tolerate any shoddy job in handling this clear case of pre-meditated murder.

“Lagos AC is calling attention to the deadly bent of the PDP in Osun State and warns that Osun is tottering to the brinks of anarchy with the unbridled disposition of the PDP in the state to brutally run any contrary voice out of town. We are even alarmed that the state police have remained fixated in pursuing the interests of the PDP in Osun State and not the interests of the people. We are afraid that these killings will continue if the Osun police refuse to unchain itself to the state PDP.

“We therefore call on the IG of Police to immediately take over the Komolafe murder case and ensure that the culprits are immediately brought to justice. We want to state that further delay or manipulation in ensuring that justice is done in this case has the potentials of unleashing anarchy on the state and ensuring that the Osun PDP continues unabated in its blood letting that targets members of the AC in Osun State. We demand for firm action now from the Inspector General of Police”.
