PRESS STATEMENT 26TH MAY 2008
BREACH OF SOCIAL CONTRACT WITH NIGERIANS: RESIGN NOW
Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP} calls on President Umaru
Musa Yaradua to resign forthwith, for breaching the social contract he
had with Nigerians.
It is our considered view that as a self proclaimed beleiver in the
doctrine of rule of law ,the only noble option left for President
Yaradua is to honourably resign having thoroughly breached the social
contract and convenant he had for the past twelve months with Nigerians.
We had carefully examined the seven piont agenda of Mr President and
could not locate any concrete plan nor the political will to execute the
social contract he convoked with the people.
CNPP was thoroughly embarassed when he told the Financial Times of
London that he is still planning, which goes to show that the seven
point agenda was as an orchestra of deception thrown at us without any
concrete plan.
Whereas we agree that he obeys court orders; however obeying court
orders is a tip of the iceberg in the doctrine of rule of law.
Protecting and defending the Constitution, which he swore, to is more
fundamental to good govrnance and we therefore submit that President
Yaradua by protecting and shielding looters of our commonwealth,
subverts the doctrine of rule of law.
Equality of all persons before the law is central and an essential
ingredient o the doctrine of rule law. All the gymnastics aimed at
capturing the soul of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
{EFCC} and protecting ex-president and ex-governors are antitheical to
the rule of law.
President Yaradua told the world during his inauguratin that corruption
is his fight and that he is embarking on zero tolerance of corruption,
twelve months after his preoccupation is obstruction of the zeal and
passion needed to plug the pandemic of corruption that weakens the rule
of law and breeds the culture of do-or-die ploitics.
CNPP is at a loss where in the seven points agenda to award a passmark;
is it the power sector he abandoned, the food crisis in our hands or
abject poverty that is threatening our national security?
Consequently, CNPP calls on President Yaradua to honourably resign as we
cannot afford to fleece away nine years of return to civil rule in the
hands of Peoples Democratic Party{PDP}; a party that is greedy and
bankrupt of ideas.
