NIGERIA DEMOCRATIC LIBERTY FORUM (NDLF)
SAVE NIGERIA PROTEST IN NEW YORK ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 22ND 2010 AT THE NIGERIAN CONSULATE IN NEW YORK.
New York, NY, January 16th 2010; T he Nigeria Democratic Liberty Forum (NDLF) is appalled by the current state of events in Nigeria and the apparent willingness of the political class to continue to hold the nation hostage. Since the institution of democratic rule in Nigeria, the nation has continuously drifted away from the ideals of true nation building. The Nigerian masses are impoverished while the elite continue to rob the people of our common wealth. The quality of life is deplorable. Other nations are faced with the challenges of the 21st century while we are bogged down by the avarice of the elite.
Every time we believe we have seen the worst from our country, the shameless opportunistic power grabbers take us to a new low. Our country has been reduced to one where a few holds her by the jugular and makes a mockery of the people's power. Unelected government officials who rigged elections and abuse public office have made life unbearable for the people while they hang on to protect their access to the nation's wealth just as our Banks have been turned into welfare centers for the privileged..
The Nigerian President Umar Yar' Adua who has abandoned his duty post for over 50 days and refused to hand over to his deputy has left the country with no leader. The country has been turned into a laughing stock in the international community and just recently added to a terrorism country of interest list. The colossal failure of leadership is indeed a clarion call to the people to rise up and demand that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and demand that President Yar' Adua resign immediately.
To this end we ask you that where is your outrage as a Nigerian and call on you to join Nigerians and friends of Nigeria on Friday January 22nd 2010 at 10.00am at the Nigeria Consulate in New York to express our outrage that Nigeria deserves better than this unconscionable treatment of her citizens by the political leaders who are preoccupied with their pecuniary interest.
