PRESS STATEMENT

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

FALAE, OGBEH, UTOMI, BALARABE, BRAITHWAITE, LABOUR CAUTION NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, WANT PDP OUT.

Eminent Statesmen under the aegis of the mega movement and leaders of the two labour centers in Nigeria working towards the emergence of a common political platform to rescue the nation from its endemic political crisis have met in Lagos, today, Wednesday, 10 February, 2010 to review the state of the nation.

The meeting hosted by Labour, reviewed the decision of the national assembly to appoint Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President based on the  transmission of the voice message of President Umaru Yar’adua to Nigerians via the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC and cautioned that though the decision may be politically expedient, it is constitutionally deficient and that the national assembly should take further steps to correct this lapse.

The meeting however, noted that the tension generated by the absence of Mr president was needless and avoidable if the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP had been a serious political party driven by best practices and encourages good faith among its political office holders. The leaders therefore averred that the entire melodrama over president Yar’ adua incapacitation is a clear indictment on the PDP and its crooked political leadership of the country, which demands urgent change by Nigerians

The meeting took reports from those present on the work already done on the formation of a formidable alternative political platform that will mobilize Nigerians, especially the working people, to engage the ruling class. In that connection, the meeting adopted an action plan to deepen the ongoing consultative process and bring in more credible stakeholders before launching the common political platform that will engage unfolding political and electoral system in the country

The consultative forum, which is expected to lead to a major political leaders’ summit on the future of democracy, was attended by Chief Olu Falae, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, Prof Pat Utomi, Comrade SOZ Ejiofoh, among other frontline labour leaders from the two labour centers and other political leaders.
