‘Recruit Only Competent People to your Cabinet’, Lagos AC Charges Jonathan.

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has charged Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that only the most competent hand are brought into his cabinet to fast track the process of recovery from the present political and economic doldrums. The party says it is only through such approach that the acting President can write his name in the annals of the country’s history.

In a release in Lagos signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the party, Joe Igbokwe, Lagos AC reminds Jonathan that history will be not forgive him if he wastes the opportunity to lift Nigeria from the present morass through pandering to narrow partisan interests. it therefore urges him to painstakingly identify Nigeria’s best hands and ensure they are recruited to turn around the worsening social, political and economic situation of the country.

“While he may face the pressure of recruiting politicians with vested interests into his cabinet, we want to remind the Acting President that he would bear the rap  alone should he fail to take Nigeria further the canvass where rudderless and very partisan interests have landed her presently. We want to let him know that he faces a very important test, borne out of the critical nature of the problems besetting the country. We want to let Jonathan know that Nigeria cannot survive further pandering to petty partisan interests and as such, he must rise to the occasion by ensuring that only credible and competent people are appointed as ministers to tackle headlong the mounting problems of the country.

“Lagos AC is concerned that most Nigerians feel alienated from the running of their country and we are aware of the negative effects of such attitude brought about by the sacrifice of merit on the alters of narrow partisanship. We want an end to this if Nigeria can sincerely navigate from the myriads of problems facing it at present. We want the Acting President to note the circumstances that brought him thus far and note that it demands from him a clinical and decisive action than continuing on the weather beaten tracks of partisanship. We want him to reach out to the best Nigerians wherever they may be, whatever be their creed or tongue to play a quick and decisive role in turning around the affairs of the country for the better.

“We want the Acting President to be guided by the desire to turn Nigeria around and if he does this, he will ensure that his future cabinet is only peopled by competent technocrats and proven professionals that are gifted to tackle the numerous problems afflicting the country.

“While we overwhelmingly support his decision to dissolve and re-constitute his cabinet, we want to remind him that nothing is gained if he goes ahead to recruit deadwoods and incompetent people in the guise of being members of his party. He should take heed of the verdicts of history and ensure he uses the short period of his reign to navigate Nigeria from the present chaos and build lasting and enduring legacies. This could only be possible through proper identification of the right people that can do the job and bringing them to the new cabinet.”
