World Water Day

New Restoration Team Tackles Gov Amaechi Administration

As the Water Day is celebrated worldwide, the New Restoration Team in Rivers State says it is very unfortunate that the State that derived its name from Rivers because of its water rich resource still lacks portable drinking water.

Blaming the incumbent government led by Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the acute scarcity of water in the State for two years today, the New Restoration Team regrets that despite the hundreds of millions of naira voted for the provision of water across the State in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 budgets there is yet nothing to show for it.

The New Restoration Team believes that the Amaechi administration is more interested in white elephant projects which are hardly pursued to logical conclusions and has little time for mass oriented projects like provision of water, electricity and feeder roads in the rural communities.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the New political umbrella, Jerry Needam, JP , the New Restoration Team argued that with the more than water resource available to the State besides the huge monetary allocations to the water sector every year, there is no reason why water should not be found in every nook and cranny of the State but regretted that rather than this, the reverse is the case.

It further reasoned that the earlier the Amaechi administration began to sound out and appreciate the immediate needs of the Rivers people, the better focused the government he is heading will come up with relevant policies and programmes in the State.

Worse still, the Amaechi administration as obstinate as it is, does not even listen to the virile opposition whose main task is to guide the government by consistently reminding and guiding it to areas of need etc.

But rather than see the opposition as a democratic feature, Gov Amaechi prefers surrounding himself with surrogates and sycophants who will stop at nothing in misinforming and deceiving him, the statement further noted.

As the whole world celebrate the Water Day, the New Restoration Team is of the opinion that governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi should use the occasion to have a rethink and retrace his steps as well as begin to tow the path of realism and objectivity so that the Rivers people can enjoy their God given resources.

“It is high time the government of the day stopped walking in illusion and be realistic. We have been deceived for a very long time and do not wish to continue this way,” J erry Needam, the National Publicity Secretary of the New Restoration Team stressed in the statement.

The New Restoration Team, he further noted has an inventory of Governor Amaechi’s poor results which according to him informed the re-engineering and regrouping of the old political family whose leadership antecedents in the State still remain unbeaten and unchallenged.

While joining the entire world in celebrating the World Day, the New Restoration Team wants the Rivers people to rise up against bad leadership and take their destiny in their own hand by rallying round the emerging political order in the State, a group it said, is out to redeem the people for a new life characterized by the good things that give meaning and value to their living.

It prayed for a new Rivers State where people do not continue to thirst for water while living in the River and longing for light while producing all the gas and other resources that light up homes etc.

Signed

Pastor Jerry Needam
