RELEASE JONATHAN ELENDU
It is with consternation that the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP}, notes with regrets, that online journalist, Jonathan Elendu was in Gestapo style arrested last week on arrival from the United States of America, at the Abuja airport.
We are appalled that Jonathan Elendu’s detention without trail 96 hours after; grossly violates extant laws of the land and makes mockery of the rule of law mantra of President Umaru Musa Yaradua’s regime.
CNPP’s enquiry into the possible reason for Elendu’s Gestapo arrest, posits that President Yaradua is miffed over incontrovertible reports emanating from Elendreports, Saharareports and other online reports; which expose the monumental corruption going on under his watch.
Our enquiry also confirms that the online incontrovertible reports of the ineptitude and corruption of the regime; compelled President Yaradua to administer Oath of Secrecy on his staff.
Is it not ironic and paradoxical that whereas the dictatorship fang of President Yaradua is unfolding; the same man is at the roof top, proclaiming the doctrine of Rule of Law?
On this score, CNPP needs to remind President Yaradua that his regime can halt the Freedom of Information Bill, cover-up corruption and stifle infrastructural development; but cannot halt the online reporters. The online reporters have come to stay and will continue to expose inept and corrupt regimes worldwide.
Consequently, we call for the immediate release of Jonathan Elendu.
