Former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu Works With Human Rights Coalition, Others To Celebrate 1929 Women Riots

FORMER GOVERNOR ORJI UZOR KALU WORKS WITH HUMAN RIGHTS COALITION, OTHERS TO CELEBRATE 1929 ABA WOMEN RIOTS

A Coalition of Human Rights groups in collaboration with Aba Traders Women Association and Ohazurume Ndigbo Elders Forum have advanced plans to commemorate the maiden 79 th anniversary of the famous Abia Women riot of 1929.

The coalition of Human rights group led by the Popular Participation Front, in a press release indicated that the essence of the celebration which would come up on Tuesday November 25 th at Aba Town Hall is to arouse the consciousness of Nigerian Women in the arduous task of nation building.

Comrade Emeka Ogbonna, the co ordination of the occasion and the President of Popular Participation Front told Popular Voice that the occasion which would involve a thought provoking public lecture and discourse would also include a public presentation of a revolutionary book written by him titled the Message of the Madman.

Comrade Ogbonna a Pharmacist by profession disclosed that Former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State would give the keynote address while Dr. Joe Okei – Odumakin of Campaign for Democracy(CD) would deliver a public lecture on the role of women in nation building.

The human rights activist said as a mark of honour and appreciation in the roles some Nigerian Women played in advancing equity, justice and fairness that awards of recognition would be given to Prof. Dora Akunyili of NAFDAC, Dr. Mrs. Okei – Odumakin of CD and Post-humous award to late Chief Mrs. Margaret Ekpo and Mrs. Fumilayo Ransome Kuti.

He pointed out that the event, which would also be graced by General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and Alhaji Balarabe Musa among other five thousand eminent dignitaries would be a turning point in the mission and vision of revolutionizing human rights activities in Nigeria.
