In a desperate bid to reap from the raging crises in some African countries, the Chinese governments now sends ammunitions to warring African countries labeling them as Agricultural equipments, pointblanknews.com has learnt.
The United Nations is said to be infuriated by the actions of China, promising to investigate the dubious shipment to Africa which was first discovered by the Overseas Development Institute.
Efforts to reach the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC and its Mission in New York were futile as no one picked up the phone while the telephone line to the press attaché was placed on fax.
Sudan, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea and unnamed West African country are said to have been the destinations of the Chinese ships containing “Agricultural equipments.”
Pointblanknews.com gathered that china has been in the business of shipping arms and ammunitions dubbed Agricultural equipments to Africa in the last twelve years and have continued till date reaping millions of dollars
Sources informed that in 1995 a Chinese ship carrying over 152 tons of ammunition and light weapons were intercepted in Tanzania and refused permission to dock, the weapons still found their way to Burundi and was used in the vicious war that claimed over 200,000 lives.
A source who confirmed this said: “it is no longer news. The Overseas Development Institute confirmed this long ago and it is still happening and we are hoping that the United Nations deal with issues such as this,” the source who would not want to be named said.
Pointblanknews.com learnt that the Islamic Government of Sudan received weapons and ammunitions worth over $100 Million, including twelve supersonic F-7 Jets and helicopter gunships from China. The weapons, experts say are what is being used to terrorize civilians and the massacre in the Darfur crisis.
In return, sources informed that the Sudanese Government created a safe haven for China to invest millions of Dollars in its oil sector.
Besides Sudan with many failed peace treaties, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Equatorial Guinea, Burundi, Zimbabwe and Tanzania have all benefited from the Chinese willingness to equip dictators and warlords with arms and ammunitions.
While the oil rich Equatorial Guinea benefited in the areas of training supply of arms and manpower development, sources disclosed that China supplied an estimated over $1 Billion worth of weapons to Ethiopia and Eritrea during their two years border war between 1998 and 2000.
Also, in Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe, dubbed as one of the oldest surviving African dictators, received about 100 military vehicles from China estimated to worth about $200 million in late 2004.
Pointblanknews.com also learnt that China, a citadel of dictatorship helped in equipping Mugabe with a device he uses to checkmate and block news waves from opposition news agencies.
However, experts argued that even though china’s presence in Africa seems to have boosted the continents economy by over 5 percent, its involvement in the sales and supplies of ammunitions to African countries known for unrest and civil strive is a major minus.
