Suspected Boko Haram sect attacked Damaturu Prison and Killed 7 Christians inmates, one Prison warden while 41 inmates were freed in Yobe State in an early morning operation.
Top security official reveal that the boko haram attacked the prison at about 6am Sunday morning during curfew hours imposed by the state government.
The commissioner of Police in Yobe state Patrick Ebguniwe had confirm the incident saying that about 40 suspected Boko haram militant launched the attack but claimed that only one inmate was killed.
Mr Egbuniwe said the combine efforts of the police officers and prison wardens engaged the gunmen in exchange of gunfire, killing one inmate while a warden sustained injuries in the process.
As at the time of this report Mr Egbuniwe said a combine team of the Police and Army are after the attackers who he said have fled to Bundigari and Pawari wards of Damaturu, the state capital.
The latest attack is the second on a prison facility in the state with the first at Damagum, Fune Local Government in March this year where members of the sect freed 14 inmates.
Boko Haram’s insurgency has killed hundreds, mainly in the Northern part of Nigeria.
On Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan sacked both the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Defence in a bid to strengthen the nation’s security system amid fire of increasing terrorism in the country.
