Labour Party names Obasanjo’s former adviser Osuntokun as Director-General

Labour Party has replaced Dr. Doyin Okupe with Professor Akin Osuntokun as the Director General of the Obi- Datti Presidential Campaign Council, following the resignation of the former.

National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure made this known during the National Working Committee Meeting with the Party Candidates, State Chairmen and States PCC Coordinators in Abuja.

Mr Abure said Osuntokun was considered because of his vast experience, commitment and efforts to deliver Mr Peter Obi as the next President of Nigeria in the 2023 elections.

He emphasized that in order to cover the six Geo- political zones, Osuntokun who is from the same zone with Dr Okupe is expected to work harmoniously with all party members of the party to ensure the party’s victory in the 2023 elections.

“The Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi and other Party stakeholders were part of the decision to appoint the new Director General of the Party campaign council” Abure added.

Dr Doyin Okupe, had resigned as the Director General of Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council following his conviction by a Federal High Court in Abuja for Money laundering.

Until recently, Osuntokun was the party’s Zonal Coordinator (South). He is a Nigerian political scientist, strategist, researcher, administrator, journalist and writer, with experience in media advocacy, policy research and implementation and political analysis.

A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Osuntokun served as Political Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and as Director of the presidential campaign of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011.
