Yoruba Self-Determination Groups To IGP: Your South West Security Summit Is A Sham

by Our Reporter

Self-determination groups in Southwest geopolitical zone have described
the South west security summit held in Ibadan by the Inspector General
of Police, Mohammed Adamu as a sham.

The groups comprising of factions of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC,
Agbekoya and host of others speaking through Comrade Adeshina Akinpelu
said that the way and manner the security summit was held shows that the
Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu was not properly informed
about who the real stakeholders are as far as security is concerned in
the southwest.

“The Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, we know has been away
serving his fatherland at INTERPOL for a very long time. He must have
been misinformed by some Yoruba officers to think that Gani Adams
is the only person that ought to be invited to such security summit;
while the real stakeholders that ought to be in the summit were not
invited. We have over 50 self-determination groups in the Southwest who
are currently tackling insecurity in their various domains. For
instance, OPC has four factions that comprise of OPC Fredrick Faseun,
OPC, Gani Adams, OPC New Era and OPC Reformed; only Gani Adams was
invited to the so-called security summit. When you have a case like this
at hand; it is either the IGP is not sincere with curbing insecurity in
the Southwest or he was misinformed by some officers who
connived with Gani Adams to take such security arrangement.”

The groups bemoaned on why the earlier security arrangement put in place
by Southwest governors and which all Southwest self-determination groups
were invited was not allowed to take-off before the IGP entered into
another partnership with Gani Adams.

“There is already a security arrangement involving Southwest governors
and all self-determination groups on how to protect our region. Why
can’t they wait for this to become operational before introducing this
one? Will this not amount to duplication? We have our suspicion about
the current arrangement with Gani Adams who we all know is an apologist
of the Fulanis.  He has always traded Yoruba race for
pecuniary motives.”

Speaking further, the Yoruba self-determination groups said that in as
much as they would have loved to support the new security arrangement of
the IGP in southwest; the involvement of Gani Adams, Miyetti Allah
and the failure of Police to fish out the killers of Funke Olakunrin and
other Yoruba sons and daughters shows that the new security arrangement
is nothing but a sham that cannot guarantee the security
of the people in Southwest.

“We’re aware that this current security arrangement by IGP Muhammed
Adamu was the handwork of some highly compromised Yoruba police officers
and Gani Adams. He Adams has been doing everything within his power to
frustrate the arrangements earlier put in place by the DAWN Commission
on security because he accused them of not allowing him to speak at the
previous security summit held in Ibadan.”
