Galatasaray’s marquee signing, Victor Osimhen, lived up to his reputation by delivering a match-winning performance as the Istanbul giants clinched the Turkish Super League title, defeating rivals Fenerbahçe 2-1 in a dramatic showdown at the Türk Telekom Arena.
A day of glory it was indeed for the Nigeria-born ace footballer.
The Nigerian striker, who joined Galatasaray in a record-breaking move last summer, scored both goals to seal the club’s 24th league championship . This victory is his first piece of silverware in Turkish football.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a powerful header from a Lucas Torreira corner, sending the home crowd into the moon.
Despite a strong response from Fenerbahçe, who equalized through Edin Džeko early in the second half, Galatasaray’s determination shone through like diamond.
In the 78th minute, Osimhen , again rattled the net. This time, with a composed finish following a slick one-two with Kerem Aktürkoğlu thereby putting the Lions back in front and ultimately sealing the title in blaze of glory.
“It’s an incredible feeling,” Osimhen said post-match. “This club believed in me, and I wanted to give everything to bring joy to the fans. This is just the beginning.” an elated Osimen said.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk praised the 25-year-old’s impact.
“Victor has been phenomenal all season. He’s not just a striker, he’s a leader. Tonight, he showed why he’s among the best in Europe.”
The win seals off a stellar domestic campaign for Galatasaray, who finished top of the table ahead of archrivals Fenerbahçe.
With Osimhen already the fans’ favorite, hopes are high that more titles, both domestic and beyond could follow in the seasons to come.
